This was the second half of the Fabricate module where we were asked to make use of space to create an installation. My idea was inspired by a sea urchin and the way it reacts to touch, and I wanted to create an inflatable hanging sculpture that retracts like an urchin depending on proximity. It required me to explore material properties and fluid properties. I made a small-scale proof of concept with an Arduino, air pump and some valves.
